Kirkenes

This is a memorial to honour the Russian soldiers who lost their life in the area in WW2. The Russian port of Murmansk which is ice free was just over the border and many allied troops were sent to the area to defend the port from the German forces. There were over 300 bombing raids and the air-raid sirens sounded over a 1000 times.
It is a blooming long way from anywhere!! 2200 kilometres to Bergen!!
