When we had the house built, our water was connected to the mains on the pavement over the wall.  We have had a clean uninterrupted water supply since.  Well done, Scottish Water.
A few months later, The Council decided to resurface the road and the pavement.  They made an excellent job of it.
Last month, we had a plumber in to do some work.  How do you put the water off? he asked.  A good question.  He actually didn't need to switch the water off, it was just the sort of question which plumbers ask to pass the time of day.  It was an excellent question.
The answer - the stopcock had been buried under the new pavement.  We had no way to switch the water off.  We haven't had the need to but suddenly felt uncomfortable.
Scottish Water were contacted and today they sent along some folk to did up the pavement and allow access to the stopcock.  W can now switch our water off if we ever need to.  Well done, Scottish Water.
Torran helped out with the excavation.
