Glasswort
Glasswort is of the genus Salicornia- a genus of succulent, salt tolerant, flowering plants. The common name Glasswort came into use in the 16th century to describe plants growing in England whose ashes could be used in making soda based glass. I believe it can also be eaten.
We have a lot of it edging the estuary and I like the way the colours change through the year, depending on the season. At the moment, it is very colourful especially when the light shines through the segments. I got right down to ground level today to capture them with the sun behind making them glow. You just don't see all these colours when further away.
