European Adventure Day 11: Padua
Another lovely, sunny day.
Today we took the train to Mestre (jam packed with loads of folk heading to Venice) then to Padua (or Padova). Cobbled streets, arches and arcades everywhere. Huge markets selling everything!
We saw this band arrive on their bicycles - all carrying their instruments on their backs including the double bass!
Had a lovely time sauntering around this very pretty city.
Our return journey wasn't quite so lovely. Although we had return train tickets, we inadvertently got on the wrong train (still going to our destination but the wrong train company) and for a ten minute journey we had to pay €47. I did ask what would happen if we refused to pay and was told we'd be fined €100 each. Decided just to pay it. Will write and complain in a few days.
Stopped off at the cake shop to cheer ourselves up.
There's a huge firework display tonight in Venice but we opted not to go as the train back here wasn't until about 3am. Hoping we might be able to see something from the balcony!
