Golden Arches

Sunday is our Sabbath (if that makes sense), so went off to Mérida in Spain for the day. I drove there, for a change, very pleasant on the good and empty roads. Decided to ignore that site-that-doesn't-do-a-good-job-anymore-of-recommending-the-best-places, and instead asked in the first bar where we should have lunch - spot on - excellent local food in a tasting menu at a great price.

Spun it out as long as we could, to stay out of the 40C heat, but had to leave eventually - walked down John Lennon street to the Roman bridge, and really didn't see much else - it's no fun when it's that hot. But went to the south side of the bridge on the way back - it's the world's longest surviving ancient bridge; over the Guadiana (the river that forms our lake). So, here you see two of the sixty surviving spans, plus a stork, two flying pigeons, and a duck.
