Life In Wales

La Cascade du Château

We've had a very lazy beach day today at L'Opera Plage where we hired sun loungers and a parasol.  I bought a blow up rubber ring so that I could float around in the sea, and we had good fun with that!

Dogs were allowed on the beach, and a girl on row of sun beds in front of us had two adorable miniature Yorkshire Terriers who were so well behaved.  A took some cute pictures of them which I've also added to my extras.

Tonight we went up to the Colline du Chateau (Castle Hill), and luckily the lift was working, so we didn't need to climb the hundreds of steps up to the top. We've seen a waterfall up there from our apartment (see the extra), so we went to find it - It was huge and there was so much spray, but it was a pleasure after all the heat!  The Castle of Nice was a citadel used for military purposes. Built at the top of a hill, it stood overlooking the bay of Nice from the 11th - 18th century,  before it was taken by French troops in 1705 and destroyed in 1706 by command of Louis XIV.  It's now a park with amazing views and there's an archeological site where they've exposed some of the ruins.

On the way back we stopped for apéro at a brasserie where they had a jazz band who were really good, so we'll go back there.   We ate in the apartment as we had lunch at the beach, and tomorrow we're out early as we're heading to Monaco for the day!
