Funky hair

She went with fabulous flourescent ribbons in her hair to school yesterday, she wouldn't take them out for bed so today we braided them in to her hair.

She enjoyed her day today- they finished a small bit of work then did lots of exciting things like extra play times and performing poems they'd been writing for fun. Katie wrote one about crazy monkeys who like onion soup. She also took her music trophies back in as her teacher had said last week she should take them in again when the head would be available to see her with them. For all that she's delighted in her achievements, she's actually quite modest about who she will tell about them so it was nice see her pleased about doing that. It was also good as the head had been unfaltering in giving his blessing for her to have time off for the music festivals this year, so it's helpful for them to see her progress and achievements.

She's worked really hard today on her clarinet- she's learnt her first pentatonic and is in the process of finishing off a 3-octave chromatic scale ready to have as a party piece when she starts with her new teacher in September. She's enjoying learning two new pieces- some more Gershwin & Take 5. She's loving working on syncopated rhythms and trickier articulation. She practised before school and after to really nail some of what she was trying to learn. She did a good piano practice too and had finished the basic learning of her first G3 piece. A very sweet piece called The Rainbow. The rate she's working, she'll start YYM aiming for grades 5 and 3 on her instruments!

She was settled in her jammies watching a bit of Tigger Movie when I realised I hadn't got her music lesson fees for her 8am music lesson tomorrow. She didn't mind- she just pulled on her dressing gown and slippers and skipped to the shop!

I love this crazy kid so much. She makes every day a bizarre, wonderful time. And in two more sleeps she's mine for the next seven weeks!
