Up Yours!
A fantastic day out at Warwick castle with the whole school today. One of the demonstrations was by an archer, and he was so entertaining I was in stitches. He was impressive with his skills too.
He talked about the 'archer's salute' and how it was rumoured to have originated.... the French used to cut off the two fingers used by an archer of any English ones they captured as a suitable punishment, so this gesture was made by the English to taunt the foe with a demonstration to show that they were equipped. A good tale for sure.
After visiting another part of the castle we walked past him, so I stopped off to tell him that I had thoroughly enjoyed his demo, and could he do the two-fingered salute for me (it was intended to be my Blip) of which he gracefully obliged; he then went one better, got my entire class over the rope and posed for a group photo. Legend.
Don't think I'll put this one on the school blog tonight though.....
