Wild Garden
We went back into the city today to go and see the Jewellery Quarter via another visit to the New Station reflections and the Library's secret gardens. We enjoyed coffee in the Library today before wandering off towards the Jewellery Quarter via the canals. We stopped to watch a barge coming through one of the lock flights and chatted to another lady with a camera, also watching. It transpires she lives, with hubby, on a barge through the summer but in the winter has a house in . . . . Bideford! Such a small world isn't it? We chatted for a good while before heading off again, eventually arriving at our destination.
En route we came across a patch of wild flowers - absolutely beautiful varieties of poppies etc. Just had to wander over and take some shots of it - the wind was blowing a bit so it could have been sharper but was just such a delight to find in the middle of a housing area I thought it deserved a blip.
We visited the Museum after enjoying the best value, very tasty lunch we have found, at the Hylton Cafe! The Museum was interesting - Mr Elf 'n Safety did not exist in days gone by in places such as these - we were shown some of the more interestingly dangerous things used. The factory we were shown around closed in 1981 and still stands as the employees left, with their bits 'n bobs all over. Very much an upstairs / downstairs situation - we were told the foreman downstairs had never in all his years working there - over 40 - been upstairs until he was invited to visit when the museum was set up! Only the Office staff went up!
We caught a bus back to the centre of the city and then another home again....many steps already having been gained! The rain started just as we were on the home stretch......
Another great day out.
