Small Copper

This is the first Small Copper I've seen for over two years.

I'd gone over to Elford on a fairly overcast morning, with a forecast of possible showers and some sunshine. I didn't have great hopes of seeing many butterflies but wanted to sit in the bird hide.

I was greeted by six Red Admirals on a white buddleia bush, and then later saw this rare beauty over on the lavender in the rose garden. A lovely morning.
