Tidying up time.

Almost all plants in the Alpine house have now finished flowering.

Time for trimming old growth and potting on for those that need more space.

The sand in the sand boxes is about six inches deep. Shortly these pots will be buried in the sand to a depth of three or four inches. The sand is then kept moist and water passes through the clay pots. This is helpful as some of the plants do not like to be watered from above when the cooler weather comes. It also helps to protect them from frost in the winter.
