Bones
I had a thoroughly enjoyable outing to Bristol today with Gary to see an exhibition of skeletons (for me)...and a propeller (for him). There are twelve human skeletons on display in the M Shed museum originating from Bristol and London. There are write-ups on their history and what is known about the individuals from their skeletal remains in terms of their age, sex, disability and disease. There were lots of interesting elements and it was all very well done and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
The propeller is from HMS Rattler and is currently on display at the SS Great Britain. In 1845 the Rattler, fitted with this very propeller, changed the course of warship propulsion away from paddle wheels to the far more effective screw type. People into nautical research tend to get a bit excited about these things, it seems. If he should happen to read this, I hope Gary is impressed that I was paying attention!
