Proper ascent
There's a Corbett in Applecross called Sgurr a Chaorachain that towers over the Bealach na Ba road. It is a relatively low Corbett at only 792m, but when the summit is positioned only a couple of km from the sea, it certainly provides good value.
Thankfully for most, the tarmac of the Bealach na Ba road climbs to 628m from where an easy ascent can be made of this peak. I decided to run it from sea level.
It took me 62 minutes from the Tornapress junction to the summit of the pass. I was fair peching my way up, but kept distracted by the fantastic scenery. Halfway up I passed the rock buttresses containing Sword of Gideon, a route I had done in a past life. Many cars passed me by offering encouragement through the window and a cyclist making the climb himself stayed within sight to the end.
I was met by the 'support vehicle' at the viewpoint car park and then we all set off along the rough ridge for a couple of km to the summit of the Corbett. A proper ascent! The photo shows the view looking back to sea level with the road passing below.
Afterwards, we headed to the Applecross Inn with the throngs of tourists for some nourishment. Later it was time for the beach and parked up at Sand.
All change tomorrow sadly with a horrible forecast.
