Dragonfly
I'm not sure what this one is, maybe an Emperor dragonfly, or one of the hawkers. I was in the garden counting butterflies when I suddenly saw it resting in the eryngium. It let me get quite close, and I decided not to push my luck any further, so as not to disturb it. I think it might be a newly emerged one, as the colours seem so pristine. I assume it had come up from the river, which is fairly close, unless someone has a suitable garden pond around here somewhere. I seem to be seeing dragonflies more often in the last year or two, so either they're doing well, or I'm getting more observant. Or perhaps it's just that I have more time to look these days.
