Three-milk cheeses
A scene from the market in Comillas. The town we visited yesterday, Arenas de Cabrales, which I haven't blipped yet, is famous for its cheeses made from the milk of goats, as well as the three- milk specials, made of goats', sheeps' and cows' milk.
Today we had to pack up and leave, but we managed to have a great last day: first, we explored the market and had coffee, followed by a trip to some prehistoric caves somewhere near Torrelavega.. Unfortunately the internet connection in our hotel had been temperamental, so I hadn't bothered to check the cave info. It turned out we couldn't have a viewing slot until 4 pm, so we decided to head off for lunch instead. We never did get to see the 13, OOO year old hand prints. And we didn't eat at the nearby town, which I thought looked quite attractive in the guide book, because it was vetoed as being too small.
Back in Comillas, CleanSteve and I had our last three-course lunch, and Tanya and Immy ate less! We drove down to the beach for a last paddle and sunbathe. The skies were blue again, the sun beat down, but all too soon it was time to change, say our goodbyes to Tanya and Immy, and head back down the highway to the airport.
Let's just say that Seve Ballesteros airport, Santander, is a lot nicer than Stansted, where we are currently holed up for the night! However, as holidays go, this one will take some beating. We've fallen in love with the north of Spain.
