The Final Journey
The Space Shuttle Endeavor arrived yesterday at an air force base in southern California. This morning the shuttle's last journey began in the desert at Edwards Air Force Base in Lancaster. First the shuttle was flown north to San Francisco to soar over the Golden Gate Bridge. Then the 747 jumbo jet that was carrying the shuttle turned south and flew over the Monterey Bay and then further south over Santa Maria and then on to San Barbara and finally into the Los Angeles Basin where it made several large circles that included the Santa Monica Pier, Griffith Observatory, Pasadena, and on to Orange County over Disneyland and then out to the coastline above Huntington Beach and Seal Beach.
Even though we did not get to see it in person, the coverage of Endeavor's final journey by the local television news was worth watching. California was truly buzzing with the excitement today. I enjoyed it more than I would have ever thought.
Good night from Southern California.
