A Day at the Gulf

We went to the beach early in an effort to beat the heat. At 8:15 a.m., it was already 84F, but a nice sea breeze made it not feel not-to-hot. Plus...THERE WAS A HUGE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT!

26 courts set up, with varying degrees of sporting talent. (These were the better players.)

It doesn't hurt the picture-taking when the "uniforms" are very colorful, and the kids are young and fit. Plus, they were very well-behaved...though I did want to wash out the mouths of a couple of young men.

Merrick and Mar-mar stayed in the ocean for a long time, and after taking more than a few shots of the volleyballers...I took her place in the water.

It's strange to be here in July, and have the ocean be so warm (it's 87F.) In the winter, you have to REALLY want to go in, and you have to get in...in stages. It's feet, knees, crotch, stomach, chest, then finally a dive. Now, you just stroll in.

Very refreshing.

You got your spike, and you got your set,
and you even got your bump.
It was fun to watch some athletes,
who really know how to jump!
