Butterfly Saturday

After seeing a grand total of 3 butterflies ( other than the ubiquitous cabbage white)  so far this season , and all of those  were yellow swallowtails- today was like having a butterfly explosion in your yard. Of course, it could be that the butterfly bush is finally in full bloom, or perhaps it was because IT ACTUALLY DIDN"T RAIN today.Whatever the cause there they were- a painted lady and 2 different skippers on the bush . they were followed by 2 (yay) hummingbird clearwing moths and of all things a monarch. The hummer actually deigned to try out the bush - and my zucchini flowers!There were 2 more different skippers in the back bed and a checkerspot in the grass. On the walk down the road 2 viceroy butterflies! Where have you been all my previous  summer days??? Oh , right - hiding under a leaf so you didn't get splatted by a raindrop????
