Games with Balls

Another very grey but thankfully not rainy day today. It is so depressing, it's as if it's Autumn already! I am at the end of the first week of the holidays, and so far it's taken me a little while to settle into the relaxed pace.

I went to get my nails done and then came home and relaxed.

It was M's birthday today, and in the evening I went to his birthday drinks in the city. It took me quite a while to find the blasted bar(!), but I think I got off at a tube just that bit too far away. I don't know what I would do without google maps to direct me, but it was a pleasant albeit windy stroll to the bar. It was a bit of a shame as when you picture a birthday outing at the end of July you rather envisage that it will involve some sun, but the weather didn't dampen any spirits ;-)

I had a cosmopolitan and we stood and chatted in a group outside until we got cold. At first I thought I might be a bit of a lightweight and head home before it finished, but the music was loud, another drink came and then I got my second wind ;-) We decided to play beer pong, which I had never played before, and I was a bit hesitant as I always feel self conscious when I've never done something before! Lame, I know! But after a quick discussion about the rules of the game from the lovely Esther, who took charge, I turned out to be quite good! It was good fun and we had a couple of games. Every time our team lost, it was poor M who had to "force" down some more beer. Well, it was his birthday after all ;-)

It was a really nice evening, with lots of fun and banter. M, by his own admission had had a lot to drink, and was a little quiet by the end! We headed off just before midnight, enjoying a balmy walk back to Bank station. We didn't have to take the very last train, but the one we took still took a whole hour. The time always passes more quickly when you've got company. I gave him his birthday card which jumped off the shelf at me- a birthday cake and candle with a double entendre that I knew wouldn't be lost on him ;-)

He kindly waited on the platform with me to get my connection which took about 20 minutes, which was nice as he had been up for 20 hours! I know how that feels but luckily I haven't had to go to work today so was spared the alcohol infused exhaustion.

I had to take a taxi home from my station, and it was getting on for 2am. With the new car, we have agreed I shouldn't take it and abandon it at the station just yet, so whilst I got a lift there earlier, I had to sort myself out getting back as it was so late. Two other girls hopped in as well, and although it did cost me £10, it got me home quickly. I rarely do this as I think it's a waste of money, and I don't like the lack of independence it brings being car-less.

I suspect once the Mini has it's first dent it will be better ;-)

I got home around 2am, and sneaked around getting ready for bed. My mind was still buzzy so it took me a while to fall asleep. Luckily they didn't hear me come in- I always worry I'll wake them up!

A nice night, and another birthday to celebrate tomorrow for A :-)
