Taster menu

Our Golden Wedding celebrations seem to go on and on.

We were treated by dear friends to a meal at a Michelin starred restaurant in Sussex. They were celebrating birthdays too. It was a very different experience because the dining tables overlook the food preparation area and we watched the chefs putting out our meals in the most exquisite patterns on the plates. The kitchen was very quiet and calm, none of the "Yes chef!" shouting that you see on the TV cookery programmes. We had an eight course "tasting menu" and each course brought more fantastic offerings. (I'm running out of superlatives!) I photographed the food too, it was so beautiful. We had a different wine with each course, carefully explained by the sommellier. In between courses there were often "amuses bouches", pretty little tasters. The meal took four hours. This was a different world for us, used as we are to pub meals!

It was an amazing evening. We stayed the night at the hotel afterwards in a luxurious room. Our friends are so good to us!
