Lizzie

We took the car into Skibbereen for it's NCT (Irish MOT equivalent). It's only required every 2 years out here until it's over 10 years old, then it's annually - as of the new rules this year. Anyway, she passed. Phew.
On the way to Skib we always admire this enormous Macrocarpa and the lime green little cottage . While I was blipping away, a very chatty Scottish gentleman came out and proceeded to tell me everything I could have wanted to know about her. Her name is Lizzie, she is a Golden Macropcarpa who was planted in 1914 when the house was built, which was also the Post Office for many decades. The house was built by the local school teacher, Mr Chumleigh (sounds suspiciously English to me) and has survived several underhanded attempts by the local council to 'trim' the entire road side half off, without the owners consent. As he pointed out it would then fall over onto his house. The fact that it remains in all it's glory is testimony to his vigilance. He certainly spotted me pretty fast, but as an admirer of Lizzie I was treated to a tour of the back garden, their stream, waterfall, the shed and had to feel the weight of one of the dead branches!! Hubs was snoozing in the car while I blip bonded with my new friend, Mr J. in his shed!!!! We're invited to a cup of tea anytime we were passing.

Out to dinner tonight with friends, it's only taken 5 1/2 years to get this invite and it'll be a very prestigious affair, the food will be exceptional, the company divine, wine will flow and I know J & M will be the perfect hosts. So no pressure M if your reading this!!!! I really hope mt fruit salad will cut the mustard. Now, what to wear...
