We have ignition!

One of the joys of a camper van (aside from being dry when it's raining, being able to stand up inside and having a comfy double bed...) is having a cold fridge with you - not just for the beer, you understand, but, well.

At Druid Camp last week I found the gas stage of the three fuel fridge wouldn't light. Not having 240Vac or long term 12Vdc and also no gas flame meant all the food gradually turned suspiciously inedible.

Today, it being raining, I went outside and had a bash at something I knew nothing about. Hey, I've fixed microwaves and food mixers and nuclear power stations* before now, gas can't be hard, can it?

Probably no-one has ever cleaned the gas jet in the van's twenty year existence, and a solvent soaks cotton bud pulled out more soot than a Victorian child in Clifton. Reassembly, with only minor blood offerings, revealed a nice blue flame.

The gas stage has been lit for half an hour now, and my IR thermometer shows the freezer section to be at a cool 3 degrees. By tonight we ought to have ice. Ice is also important in a camper van, or else the gin gets too warm.

Let's not dwell too long on the fluffy white material in the bottom. As best os we can, we didn't ingest or inhale and the rain was lovely and wet.
* yes, this is a lie. :-)
