Rain Over the Wind Farm

If you look carefully you can just see the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm on the horizon…being rained on.
This wind farm covers an area of 14 square miles, and consists of 88 Siemens Wind Turbines.  The area was chosen as the benefits of the site included low shipping and trawling activities, lack of any dredging, dumping, oil/gas or MoD practice areas and lack of cables or pipelines.  It’s also outside any nature conservation and is considered to have low visual impact from the coast, (although some may disagree with that). It was commissioned in September 2012 and its operational base is Wells. As part of the development the harbour and channel at Wells Harbour was dredged to allow wind farm maintenance vessels to be based there. A 150 metres (490 ft) pontoon jetty was also built.
B and I had a happy morning wandering up the cliffs from West Runton and then back along the beach with our cameras enjoying the peace and tranquillity engendered by the sound of the incoming tide gently lapping on the shore.
The extra is of some of the wooden sea defences which have been worn smooth by the action of the waves over the years.
