Textures of Spurn

To the lighthouse...

A three and a half mile walk down the beach at Spurn Point took us to the lighthouse where artist Alice Fox has an exhibition this weekend - the culmination of six months as artist in residence.

This textile piece hangs down the tall room midway within the lighthouse.

I think my favourite part of the exhibition was the room that Alice had used as a studio. I loved her collection of objects, seeing how she's recorded changes of light in watercolour and looking at the way that she'd recorded in line the marks and patterns on the beach. Inspiring - it's got me thinking. Thank you Alice. There one more day to see the exhibition in the lighthouse and then it goes to other places in East Yorkshire. It's well worth seeing!

As for the rest of the day - well we had a glorious walk along the beach - lots of subtle colours on the beach and then the bright coloured remains of fishing nets entangled on the groynes. And we saw two baby seals on the beach - I even have a half decent photo of one of them. We couldn't have asked for a better day for our trip either - glorious blue sky all day.
