Romneya Coulterei

When I moved into my house with a big garden 35 years ago, this was a plant I wanted. I got one. I planted it beside the patio where it would get good sun and I would see it.

It died! :-(

The Bro-in-Law however can make pine trees grow out of matchsticks. Well, maybe not but he grows things exceedingly well. He also got a romneya and his is 6' tall and covered in these lovely fried-egg blooms.

We called in on him today to collect some plants he was thinning out. Just as I took this shot the heavens opened and we made a dash for cover in the greenhouse. The three of us were huddled in there for quite a while!
