Ride a Shaving Horse

It's a traditional tool used to hold wood for shaping with a draw knife or spokeshave -- typically used to make wheel spokes or spindles for a Windsor-style chair, like the one in the photo.

This was one of the popular demonstrations by my woodworking club at the Anacortes Art Festival this weekend. Several attendees took it for a ride!
