what we did today...

New Reekie

We had a trip to the Royal Botanics Garden, Edinburgh to see the Big smelly flower Amorphophallus Titanum. D was disappointed it was no longer smelly - it is only smelly for the 5 hours after it first opens. It was interesting to see the heat images as it heats up to 40+degrees when it is ready. The stench attract flies for miles so they can pollinate it. It was cool to see such a bizarre plant. The boys then had a great time spotting passion fruit, banana. Rice, coffee plants and letting the goldfish at the large lily pad pond eat their fingers.
We finished the day at the cafe having lovely "posh" cake - posh because they came with flowers on the plate.
