Rivington Pike and Liverpool Castle

A lovely lunch and amble at Rivington with a friend this afternoon.  And this means I'm actually organised to take part in  blip challenge for once - highlighting places near to home where you take your visitors.

Rivington, on the edge of Bolton, with it's terraced gardens, the tower at the pike and the pigeon tower have featured in past blips including https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2093392656615868974, https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2107541994275340371, https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3771634, https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/4223658
It's a favourite spot for a stroll and a light lunch - and where we have taken several visitors in recent years.  The gardens were originally laid out by Lord Leverhulme, and have recently received a sizable Heritage Lottery Fund grant for some much needed tlc.  Several of the structures in the gardens are listed for historic interest, and the woodland is beautiful.

Parking can be a challenge as its very popular with dog walkers and families and it's worth checking Bolton wanderers football schedule before you visit, and I don't recommend trying to drive past the stadium 45 mins before kick off as I did this afternoon!
