Because The Knights...

...Templar had their Scottish Base here between the 12th and 14th centuries, followed by the Knights of St John, the village was renamed Temple in 1618. It's probably the oldest thing in the village!

I am not sure why I have not blipped it more, I may even have never blipped it. I have to assume that's because there are so many photos of it but with today's MM theme being old I thought now was it's time!

There are of course still Knights Templar societies around and they have an interest in reclaiming this kirk. There is a current plan to re-roof the kirk and convert it to a museum although it is more likely that it will just be tidied up and secured for years to come.
