Full Moon
There was a lovely full moon above the Firth tonight and very little cloud so there was a nice reflection of the light on the water.
Thankfully the Pilot Whales have now moved out into deeper water passing through this afternoon. They did return last night and one old , unwell female, thought to be the matriarch , was found beached this morning. Efforts to refloat her were made by the BMLDR but were unsuccessful and she was put to sleep. Her boby was recovered by the SMASS ( Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme) and a very valuable Post -Mortem has been carried out. The rest of the pod were still in the area , they have strong family ties so maybe they were wondering where the old female was but hopefully now a new female will take over and they wo nt b seen this far in the Firth again. Just hoping that the three Cruise ships departing Invergordon at the same time has nt disturbed them.
