Dilapidated

I've blipped a photograph of this building before. It is the empty, now neglected and sad looking, Shredded Wheat factory in Welwyn Garden City.

The site was bought by Tesco in 2008, when cereal production ceased there.  In March this year, Tesco were granted planning permission for a major redevelopment - which includes preserving the listed 1920s buildings, but includes 850 new homes with office, retail, and leisure elements. (There was much discussion, though, about the lack of "affordable" homes.)  Tesco have now sold the site to developers to implement the plans.  (Presumably they were not interested in hanging on to the site after their initial plans, including a large new Tesco store, were rejected.  I think they've still made a good profit on the sale, though.)

I'm never entirely clear what counts as an "affordable" home.  I am sure that properties on this site will demand very high prices, given that it is right next to the railway station with excellent, frequent and fast links into London.
