Amazing Ages, Fort George
What an amazing day Mike, David and myself had at Fort George, so much to see and do and so hard to choose blip. There were Vikings and Knights, Red coats and Jacobite's, re enactments of over 2000 years of the history of Scotland. We had a tour of the Fort George led by one of the Red Coat Soldiers. Really interesting, did you know that the men would only have a full body wash once a year thinking that would be more healthy than washing everyday ? Soldiers used to race to the local shop on pay day to buy one of the 36 bars of chocolate, the race was very popular and soldiers would want to be based at the Fort just to be able to take part in the race.
We listened to traditional music, watched Vikings fight, saw the parachute drop and watched a Falconry display which include the first flights of a young kestrel called Snitch.Lots of photos taken. I liked this one from the 1940's camp.
We spotted dolphins in the Firth from the ramparts and enjoyed the views towards the Black Isle, beautiful.
We thought we would be there for a few hours but ended up staying 6.
