Duddingston, Edinburgh
This is the Sheep Heid Inn (pronounced sheepeed according to a passing local)in Duddington. We came across it while geocaching with friend R - well she was geocaching, I was offering moral support. . It used to be a separate village but is now considered as part of Edinburgh. It is thought to be the oldest pub in Scotland. It dates from 1360 with the name coming from the rams head thought to be presented by James VI (later James I of England and Scotland) to the landlord in 1580. We nearly went to their quiz night, but a long day with three book festival events and a wet and windy night changed our minds.
