Christ in Delft blue

In Museum Vaals, the modernized image of Christ in Delfs blue is seen by the famous Amsterdam artist Hugo Kaagman.

Hugo Kaagman alias The Stencil King has further developed the template graffiti as a pioneer. Spray by hand-cut sprayers. With his collage style and the use of decorative patterns, he continuously knows new relationships and develops views. From zebra stripes to Delft blue, modernizing the tradition for the future is its starting point. From the 70s to the present, he developed a large Delft blue oeuvre ranging from paintings, ceramics and clothing to walls, tunnels, towers, buses, boats, trains and planes. A census still lacked the abovementioned summary.

From Museum Vaals he has been given the opportunity to dramatically modernize a large Christ statue with a total height of four and a half meters in the Vaals park. The result is a giant eye-catcher at the entrance of the museum, which makes people stop and photograph.

The paintings with a modern vision of Hugo Kaagman's Christianity in the former monastery of Vaals combined with the many ancient neo-Gothic monasteries and monasteries, create a special atmosphere.

Kaagman's work is a mixture of Western, non-Western, civil, artisan and modern, avant-garde, mocking and critical, while respecting the artistic aspect of craft work. For Kaagman art is a belief. Inspiration comes from above.
