Heartbreak Hill

Today's the day ............................... to go up the Hill

The weather was cold and wet - just not what you would choose when you have to go up Heartbreak Hill.

As the Trent & Mersey Canal ascends from the Cheshire Plain, it is necessary to negotiate the 26 locks in merely seven miles that have become known as Heartbreak Hill. In all, boats are raised up through 250 feet in height by passage through this exhausting stretch of canal.

Just as well there's a very good pub - the Red Bull - to replenish your energy supplies at the top .........................
