Castle Drogo

You know how I said I wanted a new house with a fireplace ...

... well, I think I've found it!

To finish my short break, I stopped at Castle Drogo near Oakehampton on my way home. I joined the National Trust earlier this year but haven't really got my money's worth yet, so I wanted to fit in a visit somewhere this weekend, and this one is just off the A30 as I drove back up through Devon. The house was designed by Lutyens and is really beautiful and well proportioned, in spite of its rather stark exterior.

The final leg of the journey was to call in on my dad for a cup of tea this afternoon.
