Touristy Day

We had great plans to organise our bank accounts today so we could sort out all our other admin things. Unfortunately we got to the bank and it was closed on Mondays. We did meet a strange Algerian chap who told us all about the history of the Algerian War and how he'd have preferred the English to have colonised them not the French.

We then decided not to waste the day but to go into Paris itself and explore. We headed to the Jardin de Tuileries before wandering towards the Louvre, with this statue of Louis XIV (someone who Mairead has a great love of, I discovered). We then just wandered round, had chips and a hot chocolate in a Cafe, though the waitress insisted on talking to us in English despite our replies in French. We then went to Notre Dame and up to see the Sorbonne, just to compare it with the 60s buildings of Nanterre University and to see the Pathenon. There's so much to see in Paris, I'm not sure a year is going to be enough time to see everything.
