Shepherd and Sheepdogs

Unveiled on 22nd May 2017, this splendid sculpture stands on the western outskirts of Cockermouth. It lies adjacent to the new Lovell housing estate, The Laureates, and is a reminder of the agricultural heritage upon which Cockermouth was founded.

Since earliest times, farmers have traded their stock and produce here. As far back as 1156, the first fulling mill manufactured cloth from local wool. And in 1865, Robinson Mitchell built the first purpose built livestock auction mart in the country which was the forerunner of auctioneering worldwide.
