Victoria St
This is one of my favourite streets in Edinburgh. It was looking more colourful than I remember and the building works that were there last month on the upper balcony level have been finished in time for the Fringe.
Its very close to the Shackleton exhibition at the National Library. Most of the photographs were taken by Hurley a member of the team, on glass slides. The rescue story itself is a miracle but what is equally amazing is that the glass slides survived. As explained at the exhibition - "For the first time, the fragile glass plate and celluloid negatives, stored securely at the Royal Geographical Society for more than 80 years, have been digitised directly from the originals. Now viewed at full definition, the images unlock the remarkable detail captured originally by Hurley in his photographic processing, including interior images of the Endurance and high resolution information of life on the pack ice of the Weddell Sea." See extra for an example. Expand the extra as much as you can to see the amazing detail in the negative. The exhibition is called Enduring Eye. It is touring although is in Edinburgh until November. I liked the notice on the way in "Photography encouraged"
