Never mind "How Green Is My Valley".....
How Blue is my sea.........??
A view looking North along part of the North West coast of Kefalonia.
In the foreground is the pure white Mirtos beach, wih the picture postcard village of Asos in the middle distance.
It's unfortunate that the photo doesn't do the actual location justice, there are hundreds of beautiful and stunning views to behold on Kefalonia.
Mirtos beach is a very popular tourist attraction often attracting coach trip, so can be very very busy.
If you want a perfect beach can i recommend Vatsa beach, it lies on the southern coast line of the Lixouri penninsula. It can be a little difficult to find, you just have to keep a sharp eye open for the sign posts. It's a small cove, probably no more than 400mtrs across, sheltered from the main currents and winds of the part of the coastline. The water is edged by golden sand which slopes gently down into crystal clear warm water. There are 5 or 6 cane shelters dotted along the beach, which can be used for the day at a cost of a few euros paid to the taverna at one end of the beach. You can of course use your own brolley to shelter from the afternoon sun at no cost. The taverna has been there for some years now, it's been constructed actually in the sand of the beach, it is open on three sides and is covered by a very effective cane and bamboo roof, the food is excellent.
We've been to Vatsa beach five or six times over the last three years, on each visit there have never been more than a dozen people on the beach.
Paradise...........
