This morning I discovered this moth on the outside of the door. Mid-afternoon, as the sun moved to where this door is positioned, the moth moved to a sheltered recessed panel - perhaps looking for shade?

It measures 4cm by 1.5cm with wings spread. If anyone can identify it I would be most grateful as my knowledge of moths is close to zero. Searching online was an eyeopener as there are a huge number of moths and sadly I couldn’t find a match.
