Double Shot Mummy

By JPS

Phew.... it is over!

What a day!

Bailee fell off the dresser and hurt her foot (Yes I, (aka bad mummy) sat her on there so I could do my hair). She was screaming hysterically and then calmed down a bit but wouldn't put any pressure on it. After an hour of still refusing to stand and on and off crying I took her and Maple to the A&E department. There was nothing visible apart from slight swelling. They did an x-ray but the orthopaedic surgeon could not see anything. He explained that sometimes it is hard to see in children and said to monitor her temperature, come back if symptoms worsen and booked us in to reassess in 4 days time.

So the whole day involved carrying Bailee to the couch/taxi/table/toilet and a lot of crying in-between. It was one of those heartbreaking "Why can't I fix it when I am her mum" days. The tv was on all day and most of it was sat in between the twins with Maple latched on and Bailee leaning on me.

The twins slept at different times (Oscar stayed home with daddy and slept when I took the girls to the doctor). Oscar and I made cinnamon spelt gingerbread men when he woke up.... he went crazy eating the dough, but what we managed to actually bake was yummy.

We also listened to music and did everyones handprints and Maple and Oscar's footprints. Bailee was so excited about the painting that she forgot about her foot and consequently screamed in pain when she went to do her footprint.

I thought I'd let us all have some fresh air and go for a walk so strapped Maple in the sling and put the twins in the pushchair. Got out the door and realised it had a flat tyre. Tried to pump it but it definitely has a puncture. Oscar talked about nothing else but the hole in the buggy's tyre all afternoon.

I was really proud of Oscar today. He played very independently with his train set, Gruffalo magnetic game and soft toys. He even bought Bailee something different each time he changed what he was doing. Although it was a mentally exhausting day for me and a really bad day for poor Bailee, it was one of Oscar's best days in Dubai so far.

Hoping Bailee wakes up feeling a lot better after her foot has had a good rest. There were a lot of people I wished were here today.
