Going underground

Of the 20,000 species of bee in the world, 70% live underground.  This is one of them; small and solitary like most of the underground bees.   

I thought this little guys was an ashy mining bee but everywhere seems to say they're on the wing from early April to early June.  Maybe they still think it's spring?!  Or more likely my ID isn't right!

When he was flying, he looked pale blue and flitted around making it most awkward to take a photo.  Luckily, it was warm on the moors so Little Dog had a lay down and I had a bee hunt. 

I reckon Going Underground may well be on my playlist tomorrow.  I knew the song but didn't know any of the lyrics - I think they will be pertinent for a while longer yet.
