Penstemon Sour Grapes
Today's the day ....................... for a progress report
This is just to show my brother Ron how well, the cuttings of Penstemon 'Sour Grapes' that he made for me, are doing in our new border.
It's the name that does it for me. It is a perfect description of the magenta-blue flowers that have a metallic sheen, reminiscent of black grapes, contrasting particularly well with deep purples and blues. They seem to have an almost iridescant glow about them. They form elegant spikes of small, tubular, foxglove-like flowers among lance-shaped, bright green leaves.
They will keep flowering right into the autumn too - so we can enjoy them for a while yet ...............................
