Interfaith Clergy Resistance

Several hundred people marched in the blasting heat on Monday, in solidarity with the march on Washington of Dr. Martin Luther King, 54 years ago. The clergy were outspoken in their objections to the President and his policies. They prayed for refugees and immigrants, for Black Lives, and for Climate Justice. I took about 450 photographs and it was hard to choose one. See Extra for my #2 choice. But there were many portraits as well. I hope these good people (most of whom I have never seen before, while photographing protests for the past six years) will continue to work for change in all the areas they prayed about.

Meanwhile in Houston my daughter is doing well. The home she shares with a friend and the friend's children and boyfriend is on high ground (by good fortune, not by plan). The water has not risen up to their living level, and this morning the water level was falling and there was even a little sunshine. She was luckier than most, and I am grateful on her behalf, deeply troubled for all those less fortunate. The one hope I feel is that, since Houston is the hub of the fossil fuel industry of the USA, seeing the waters rise up around them may force those CEOs to face the reality of the danger the planet faces, despite their profitable denials and despite their advocates in the White House.
