All politics is local...

...observed Tip O'Neill,  a five term Speaker of the House of Representatives, and this pair certainly prove it.

Isobel Strong and Robert MacIntyre had  between them 40 years service as SNP Councillors for  the Island of Bute when they left office in May.

Last night the local SNP branch commemorated their work at a wonderful dinner in the Golf Club in Rothesay which was attended by people from across the political spectrum ( and from across Argyll)  all of whom wanted to thank them for the many things that had done for the island, for local people and for the wider area and Scotland. 

I was privileged to be asked to speak after dinner, and to give my thanks in person to two remarkable politicians with whom I am lucky to have also been very good friends over the years.
