New Zealand advice?

I sneaked a picture in of Hubs and Yola doing her homework this evening, Bob Marley's obituary, it's obviously serious stuff. The husband looks particularly wrecked tonight! I wish I'd had assignments that interesting. These two get along famously doing her homework! I get a warm glow of step parental satisfaction that they love each other so much and work so well together.

I've spent hours today researching flights to New Zealand. We have the opportunity to go for a few months to stay with friends and travel round. There some dots to be joined up in order for this to go ahead, so it may well just be 'pie in the sky', but I want to check out all avenues to make sure we get a good deal if there is a chance of going. Any advice out there?
So far I've got Singapore Airlines, 22h x 1 stop for £1138 in January.
