Sunday in the Park

I heard that an American disc golf player was visiting Stroud  and playing a round with the local group of players in Stratford Park tis afternoon. Despite the intermittent rain, overcast clouds and blustery winds I ventured out after 4pm, the projected meeting time.

Eric L. had arrived and I caught up with him playing with four others quite close to the Museum and the lake in the park. I followed them around for about an hour as they moved from hole to hole, and took pictures when I could although the light was very dark.

I tried to take pictures of the discs in flight and rather liked this heavy crop of a hard backhand throw by Dan B. with the disc having just left his hand. The discs used in golf are specialised as you can see by the profile and are not useable for throw and catch which is what most people associate with playing frisbee. These are more like projectiles and used as 'drivers' and each special shape of the disc provides different flight characteristics used for the varying conditions found at each of the eighteen holes.
