A very windy night but it did subside in the morning so we decided we could manage another bike ride to the WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre to try once again to get a photograph of the kingfisher - well Kate obliged - but the real kingfisher wasn’t landing again today. Apparently they have been spooked a lot during the school holidays and are now wary of the perches near the hide.
We had a wander around, another coffee and then when we came to set off Mr T had a flat on his front wheel, despite having Kevlar tyres! A bit of a palaver to change it as it was the first time we had needed to. I said to take the wheel off first but no the tube had to come out first, but then the tyre and tube got stuck so sure enough off came the wheel!
Anyway nothing was found inside the tyre to have caused the puncture and eventually a new tube was fitted. Unfortunately our little bargain bike pump from Aldi wouldn’t inflate the tyre. I popped back into the centre and asked a chap who was just leaving if they had anyone who was any good with punctures and had a pump. Well my luck was in as he looked after the centre’s bikes so he inflated the tube for us and helped us get the tyre back on and wheel re-attached! That all took us 65 minutes!
Our plan had been to get some food at Flannagans Coastline Cafe but they took last orders at 17:30. As soon as we hit the exit from the Wetlands the heavens opened! Combined with a headwind it was a tough ride, and we had no idea what the time was so we just pressed on. The rain stopped after about 10 minutes but then started again when we were almost there! We made it with two minutes to spare so I was sent in to order food while Mr T managed to get the bikes locked up. They were brilliant in the cafe and the food was just as good as normal. We chatted to the manager and one of her staff afterwards and they really have a great approach. They have both been there since the Discovery Centre opened 12 and half years ago. They make the most awesome chocolate milkshake so we will have to have one after our ride tomorrow (we are hoping to reach Pembrey).
Then fed and watered and with some takeaway Bara Brith (which was as good as they said it was) it was nice to get back “home” for hot showers, although our waterproofs had kept us nice and dry. It will be one adventure we will look and laugh about!
My extra is off the sunset, the most amazing lighting after the storms and even a rainbow in the top right shot.
