Family Reunion
Dear Fat Pete & Princess Normal,
Feefs and I went for a walk into town in the morning. We had a number of things to achieve, but primary on the list was to get a “burner” phone so that Er Indoors and I will at least have a temporary NZ phone number while our new accounts are getting sorted out by Harvey Norman (yes, they do everything – tv’s, furniture, phones – they are amazing).
Getting a burner sounded exciting. It made me feel like a criminal or a spy. That was until Feefs tried to set it up for us later that day.
She sat for an hour calling the phone some very bad names. “Ya f***ing c*** of a thing,” she snarled. “I tell ya, if I were a criminal this phone would be USELESS. It is so NOT conducive to dealing drugs and killing people.”
It's the burner phone I'm using to connect to the internet by the way. I'm telling you (Princess & Pete) this because obviously I'm limited to the amount of data on this phone so my blips and WhatsApps may be limited until we get our modem (hopefully today). But if I appear to have dropped off the grid again later, do not fret. I shall return.
But mainly, today was about the Little Guys. They got dropped off just after 2pm, squeaking and meowing in their crates. We opened them up and there was a lot of low-to-the-ground skulking and sniffing of the area.
Obviously Punky took longer to adjust. Always the more nervous of the two, he squeaked and eep-ed his way from room to room. Jasper, by contrast, took just 15 minutes before he was lounging on the floor like he owned the place. Meanwhile, Feefs had taken the long, large box from Freedom Furniture which had contained our tv table and covered it in black plastic.
“This is your temporary coffee table,” she said.
But she had also cut cat-sized holes in it. “Cat tunnel!” she said. It took Jasper FIVE MINUTES to discover this. In fact, he was sticking his head out of one hole while she was still cutting it.
So the little guys are still settling. It is now Monday morning and Punky is still nervous (though much improved) and Jasper is still exploring. Part of it is that they’ve never had anywhere this big to explore before, and are still discovering new areas. I think they will have settled in by the end of the week. And I expect Cat Tunnel to be prime catty real estate.
